Thoughtful breeding without making it complicated.
Weldon Ridge Ranch is a small, family-run breeding program built around dogs we genuinely enjoy living with.
We have spent more than a decade with Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, and over that time our philosophy has stayed pretty simple: breed healthy, well-rounded dogs, raise them in a real home environment, and make the process easy and personal for the families who want one.
We care a lot about what we do. We just do not believe buying a puppy needs to feel like applying for a mortgage.
What We Breed For
Our goal is to produce Tollers that are healthy, sound, intelligent, athletic, and enjoyable to live with.
We pay attention to health testing, pedigree, structure, temperament, and overall compatibility when planning a litter, but we also try not to overcomplicate things.
At the end of the day, we want to produce dogs that look and act like good Tollers and that can comfortably fit into a wide range of homes.
We have always found the breed to be incredibly adaptable, trainable, and responsive to the environment they are raised in.
Raised in Real Life
Our puppies are raised in our home and around our family.
They are exposed to normal household activity, people, kids, outdoor time, new surfaces, sounds, water, play, and all the little things that come with everyday life.
We want them to leave here confident, curious, and comfortable experiencing new things.
We do not try to create a perfectly controlled environment. We would rather raise puppies in the kind of real-world setting they are eventually going to live in.
Health & Breeding Decisions
We take health seriously and use breed-appropriate testing and pedigree information when making breeding decisions.
There is no way to remove every possible risk from breeding, but we believe in doing the homework, making thoughtful pairings, and being honest with our families.
We look at the whole dog — not just a single test result or trait — when deciding whether a breeding makes sense.
Choosing Your Puppy
We do not assign puppies based on formal temperament testing, and we do not believe we can perfectly predict what an eight-week-old puppy will be like years later.
A puppy’s behavior at our house at 56 days old is influenced by our environment, our routine, the litter, and everything they have experienced up to that point. Once that puppy moves into your home, your lifestyle, training, expectations, and environment begin shaping them too.
Tollers are incredibly intelligent and trainable dogs, and in our experience they are also very adaptable.
Because of that, puppies are selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
We are always happy to talk through the litter, tell you what we are seeing, and answer questions about individual puppies, but ultimately we believe choosing a puppy is a very personal decision.
A Straightforward Buying Process
No required formal applications, home visits, interviews, or a long approval process. Reach out, tell us about yourself; what got you interested in Tollers, where you live, what you do for work, etc. Have a conversation with us, tell us what you are looking for in a dog and we will discuss whether a Toller is a good match.
Beyond that, we try to keep the experience relaxed and easy.
We believe most people looking for a well-bred Toller are thoughtful, responsible dog owners, and we prefer to treat them that way.
Are Tollers Right for Everyone?
Tollers are active, intelligent, affectionate dogs, and they tend to thrive when they are included in everyday life.
They enjoy activity, training, games, outdoor time, and being with their people.
That does not mean every Toller needs to live in a competition home or run ten miles a day. In our experience, they can adapt extremely well to different lifestyles as long as they receive attention, structure, exercise, and training.
They are very much dogs that become what you invest into them.
Staying in Touch
We enjoy hearing from our puppy families long after their dogs go home.
We are always available for questions, whether they are about training, behavior, health, feeding, or just normal life with a Toller.
We do not disappear after pickup day, but we also do not hover over our families.
Once your puppy goes home, they are your dog, your family member, and part of your life. We are simply here whenever you need us.
